May's Young Artist: Varvara Kutuzova

(Интервью с Варварой Кутузовой)

Varvara Kutuzova was born in 2003 in Arkhangelsk, Russia, moving to the city of Moscow at the age of 2. Now age 12, Varvara has already been the prize winner of numerous international competitions in New York, Ukraine,

Mexico and Serbia, many scholarships, and a recent laureate in the Grand  Piano International Competition in Russia.

Currently, Varvara is studying

at the Central Music School of Moscow State Conservatory. We are happy that Varvara agreed to do this interview:

Q: How old were you when you started playing the piano? Do you

play any other musical instruments?

VK: I started playing the piano at 4 years old. I do not play any other instruments.

Q: Do you have a favorite music composer, or a favorite musical composition?

VK: My favorite music composer is Mozart. In general, I love all the music that I am playing right now.

Q: When you are not playing the piano, what hobbies do you enjoy?

VK: When I am not playing the piano, I love to read, dance and chat with friends. I also collect porcelain dolls.

Q: You just entered the Grand Piano International

Competition in Moscow, and became a prizewinner.

Congratulations, Varvara! Can you tell us what that

experience was like for you?

VK: The Grand Piano International Competition was another

important performance on the stage for me. I did not perceive

it as a "competition", because 15 of the best young pianists

participated in it from around the world, so for me it was yet

another spectacular live performance.

Q: At the age of 12, you have already done a great deal

of performing! Are there any favorite performances that

come to mind?

VK: I can't choose. All of the music performed on the stage,

this is all for me the most interesting.

Q: You certainly have a bright future ahead of you. What do you hope to be doing 10 years from now?

VK: 10 years from now, I want to become a world famous pianist. This is my dream, and I am doing everything to make it a reality!
